Pigadi (Greek, Modern: Πηγάδι, older form: -on) is a Greek settlement located about 72 km southwest of Patras, about 38 km north-northwest of Pyrgos, east of Andravida, 7 to 8 km from Tragano and Kyllini and southeast of Lechaina. The GR-9 (Patras - Pyrgos - Kyparissia is about 10 km to the west. Pigadi had a 2001 population of 48. Pigadi is in the municipal unit of Tragano. Its main industry is agriculture with some other services.

Geography

Pigadi is situated between the Pineios valley and the plateau. The ravine is south of the village and the plateau is to the central and the northern parts and contains farmlands along with some forests, more farms mixed with forests lie to the south along with the Pineios River 3 kilometers south which is also a boundary with Ancient Elis.

Pigadi is located near the Chlemoutsi fortress and valley, and mount Skollis and Erymanthos. Also nearby are the islands of Kefalonia and Zakynthos.

Overview

Houses were stone-built until the 1950s and did not surpass modern-style homes until the 1980s. It was linked with pavement in the 1980s. Most of the homes are abandoned today. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, much of the population left for larger towns and cities especially the nearby Patras. The population remained steady since the mid to late 20th century.

Economy

Its main production are fruits including watermelon, melon, figs and vegetables including corn, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cucumbers and others as well as dairy, livestock, olives and others. The majority of the population are based in other businesses as well as agriculture.
